Republican Ron Eller is set to face off in November against 16-term Democratic incumbent Bennie Thompson in Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District. Eller defeated Andrew Scott Smith in Tuesday's primary runoff election, and he will move forward to the general election.Eller is a military veteran and physician assistant.Thompson was unopposed in his primary in the heavily Democratic district that stretches along the Mississippi River to the west, across the Delta and into Jackson. Thompson has held the seat since 1993 and is the top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee.
